Northeastern MS/HS

Northeastern entered Saturday's Sectional 44 Championship game 23-1 on the season and on an 8 game winning streak. They extended that streak to 9. In what was a very competitive and seemingly back and forth contest, Northeastern outscored Union County in every quarter. The Lady Knights were efficient from the field, shooting 55.6% for the game (53.3% from two, 66.7% from three, 83.3% from the line). The Knights lead by 6 at the half 27-21 and pushed their lead to 9 by the end of the 3rd quarter. The 4th quarter, however, was dominated by Northeastern. The Lady Knights forced multiple turnovers with their press and converted them into fast break points. This gave Northeastern a 19-5 advantage in the final frame en route to their second Sectional Championship in as many years. This marked only the second time in school history that a Northeastern girl's basketball team won the Tri-Eastern Conference outright and a Sectional Championship in the same year and the first time since 1989. Northeastern will play next Saturday, February 15th at Southwestern (Shelbyville) HS at 4:00PM vs Heritage Christian.
