The Lady Knights won 7 matches yesterday, with #1 Singles Lauren Lacey winning 2 as the top seed in the TEC, #2 Singles Josie Retz winning in her play-in against Knightstown before falling in the 1st round, #2 Doubles Alyssa Sheets & Olivia Null easily dispatching 2 teams to advance to the #2 Doubles Championship match on Monday, and finally #1 Doubles Ella Coddington & Chaia Gardner winning easily in their first match, and then surviving their 2nd match against Winchester--where they were down at least 3 match points--to win an exhausting thriller to advance to the #1 Doubles Championship on Monday. "I don't know that many gave us a shot to be this resilient and playing as well as we are. We are 3 wins from claiming the TEC Championship, and we would have to win all 3, but we have put ourselves in position to do so, so why not write our ending to the story? Whatever the results may be, we have shown up, and we're all playing like winners. I am beyond proud of the way we have grown as individuals and as as team this season and I think the girls can feed off this success for Monday and our upcoming Sectional play at Richmond this week. I also can't say enough about the fight in #1 Doubles. We had every chance to lose this match, being down to several match points against us, but the girls fed off each other and kept fighting and swinging, playing for each other and the team. It was one of the best matches in tennis I have ever seen. No one, Northeastern or Winchester, should hang their heads because of that match, win or lose, it was a true battle.
