Lady Knights Fall in Game 1

April 1, 2024 the Northeastern Knights Softball team hosted their season opener against the Wapahani Raiders. The Lady Knights competed through a close battle throughout 7 innings. Raiders’ Koger scored the first run in the game for Wapahani, allowing them to take the lead in inning 1. In the bottom of the first, the Knights came back to tie with Mackenzie Johnson earning a single, followed by walks from Clare Lopeman and Jocelyn Allen. Johnson crossed the plate to put the Knights on the board in the first due to a wild pitch by the Raiders’ pitcher, Koger. The Knights took the lead in the third inning with a homerun from Clare Lopeman, followed by a walk from Karri Gammon who made it around the bases on a put-out from Allen and 2 errors from the field. The Raiders took the lead back in the fourth inning by scoring 3 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks. The Knights fought to get 2 runners in scoring position in the bottom of the seventh, but couldn’t get the job done, losing 4-3 against Wapahani. Clare Lopeman, starting on the mound for the Knights, pitched 4 innings, with the Raiders scoring 4 runs, 3 ERs and earning 11 strikeouts. Mackenzie Johnson pitched 3 innings for the Knights, allowing 0 Runs and earning 3 strikeouts in her freshman debut. Lillian Null led the Knights going 2-2 at the plate with 2 singles. Clare Lopeman ended the game 1-3 at the plate with a homerun and a walk. The Knights will host Franklin County on Friday, April 5th @ 5:30 PM.
