Northeastern football kicks season off with a TEC win

The Northeastern varsity football team started the season off with a TEC win over visiting Union County 48-9. Noah Ammerman got the Knights on the board with a 90 yard kickoff return for a touchdown on the opening kickoff. But after a couple of offensive miscues Northeastern found themselves down 9-7 to the Patriots. They responded by scoring 28 straight points to end the first half. Carson Terrell threw 2 touchdowns to Logan White and Dylan Isaacs and Noah Ammerman ran in scores. The Knights held Union County scoreless in the second half and tacked on a TD pass from Terrell to Ammerman and Blake Waters ran into the end zone for the final score of the night. Senior kicker Luke Higdon was 6 for 7 on extra points on the evening. Terrell threw for 140 yards and 3 scores, Zane Schneider lead the team with 53 rushing yards and Logan White had 41 yards receiving and 2 scores. Blayne Bry lead the defense with 18 total tackles while Calvin Berhalter had 4 tackles for loss and Conner Archie, Ethan Neeley and Schneider all had 11 total tackles. Ammerman and Isaac Martin also had interceptions. The Black Wall defense held Union County to 146 total yards and forced 3 turnovers. The Knights (1-0) return to action this Friday night at Tri High School (1-0) to take on the Titans. Kickoff is at 7:00 pm.
