The Northeastern Knights varsity football team lost a close contest on Friday night to the visiting Panthers of Knightstown 14-12. Northeastern opened the night with a defensive stop and a 14 play, 66 yard scoring drive that ended with a 5-yard touchdown run by Shane Berry. It was a hard fought battle all evening as the game stayed within a one-score game all night. Haydn Martin scored the Knights’ other touchdown on a 9 yard scamper in the 4th quarter. Garrett Tudor went 5 for 8 passing with 50 yards. Quantrell Gammon added 2 catches for 43 yards. Shane Berry had 51 yards on 14 carries to go with his 9 solo tackles and 8 assists. Josh Berger had 2 sacks and Gage Lawson, Shane Berry and Logan Mastriano also had sacks. Wesley Mull had 15 total tackles and Cole Mikesell had an interception in the red zone for a Northeastern defense who held a very explosive Panthers offense to 14 points. The Knights fall to 5-3 on the season and 5-2 in the TEC. Northeastern plays at Hagerstown next Friday at 7 pm as they close out the regular season.
