Knights Girls Tennis get their first win against Hagerstown

By Matt Haynes | Apr 17, 2024 9:00 AM

The Lady Knights got their first win of the season, winning 3-2 against Hagerstown. Winners for the Knights were #1 Singles Lauren Lacey, #1 Doubles Chaia Gardner and Ella Coddington, and #2 Doubles Olivia Null and Alyssa Sheets. #3 Singles Aubrey Mainous fought hard, but lost in a 3 set match after winning the first set. "Overall I think it was a good response from yesterday. Against Blue River we played timidly and down to the level of our opponents, as well as missing opportunities or making simple tactical mistakes in big point situations, causing us to lose yesterday. Today we took a better mindset into the match and overall, we executed the game plan. We still have work to do, confidence to build, and a short time to do it, because we play again tomorrow, Thursday, and Saturday. Hopefully we can just hit more consistently and treat each upcoming match as both an opportunity to practice and experiment with shot, as well as compete at the same time, as we have more matches than we have available practice times. I really think the girls can respond and have a good run this season if we focus on consistency, footwork, and tactics for constructing points," said Coach Haynes. The Knights rise to 1-2 on the season and 1-0 in the TEC. Singles: #1 Lauren Lacey defeated Avery Schmitz 6-0, 6-0 #2 Josie Retz lost to Morgan Williamson 1-6, 0-6 #3 Aubrey Mainous lost to Addie Vinson 6-4, 1-6, 0-6 Doubles: #1 Chaia Gardner & Ella Coddington won against Mary Lach & Kalyn Harrison 6-0, 6-0 #2 Olivia Null & Alyssa Sheets won against Lynette Woodstock & Gretta Smith 6-2, 6-0
